IBARAPA CENTRAL/NORTH CONSTITUENCY STAKEHOLDERS MEET OVER APC PRIMARY
Leaders and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress in both Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North local government areas have met to take some proactive measures aimed at ensuring a hitch-free party primary as aspirants from the constituency strategize to emerge as the candidate of the party in the 2023 general election.
The two local government councils which consist of many major towns, villages and settlement make up both the state and federal constituencies while it is expected that they collaborate to produce different persons as candidates for the reserved State House of Assembly and House of Representatives seats in every general election.
Reports have it that following the release of the timetable for party primaries on Wednesday after the meeting of the National Executive Council of the APC, leaders swung into action as they conveyed a stakeholders meeting in Idere home of Chief S. O Lasunsi where key decisions were taken as it concerns the fate of many aspirants who are jostling to emerge as the standardbearer of the party in the primary slated for next month.
The Secretary of the G6 Caucus of the APC in the Constituency, Prince Stephen Ojelere, who addressed the press shortly after the meeting stated that “the decision of the leaders to come together was informed by the need to forestall any likely crisis which might come up before, during and after the party primaries since many aspirants had indicated their individual interest to fly the party’s ticket as either candidate for House of Assembly or House of Representatives seats.
“The leaders resolved that the situation on ground requires the APC to present only credible faithful who are popular enough to win election and such persons should be well known to the majority of stakeholder. Meanwhile, it was unanimously agreed at the meeting that process through which candidates would emerge must free, fair and acceptable to all concerned.
“More importantly, the leaders deliberated on the issue of zoning and it was agreed that the candidate for the House of Assembly should come from Ibarapa Central while that of House of Representatives should come from Ibarapa North local government area in the interest of justice and equity.” Ojelere added.
The party leaders who attended the meeting include; Pa Silas Lasunsi, Alh. Olayide Abas, Chief Francis Babalola, Chief Timothy Adenrele, Hon. Rafiu Ojegoke and Chief Kazeem Jinadu.
