My Personality of the Year is Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila……
He is a man who brought real opposition to the National Assembly since 2003, tackling the excesses of the PDP for 12 years until he moved the minority to become Majority democratically and the ‘Majority’ of those days now takes the back seat. Gbaja is a consistent democrat, raised by Tinubu, adopted by Buhari and hijacked by the People!
With all his undeniable efforts, skills and commitment to progressive politics, he was almost completely shut away from attaining his deserved place when a gang up of half halfDead Pdpians postponed his destiny in 2015. He was calm in the midst of the turbulent storm, he remained steadfast and when the fakes went back to their vomit, the natural progressive took over his place in 2019.
Since 2019, Gbaja championed the cause of common man through effective law making process and using Surulere as example of his capabilities and what he can do with little to bring smiles to people’s faces. Although the President denied it assent, Gbajabiamila championed the Direct Primary for political parties in Nigeria because of his people-focused ideas, he believes that if Democracy is for the people, then people must take over and law must assist the people not outsmart the people. History will one day judge him just like Anthony Enahoro who moved the motion for Nigeria’s independence. A king is coming that will want to leave a People’s legacy as his core achievement, when that king comes and adopt Direct Primary, a standing ovation will always be earmarked for Gbajabiamila!!!!
Merry Christmas to the only lawmaker in Nigeria who moved from being a member to becoming a minority leader, then Majority Leader and now the Speaker, a man whose brilliance is not a decoy to damage loyalty, a progressive to the Core, the Surulere Golden Boy, Femi Gbajabiamila.
