Nigeria: The largest political party in Africa (APC) excludes it’s Diaspora chapters in the party´s proposed constitution.
The Diaspora leadership and the members of the certified chapters of the largest political party in Nigeria, Africa, All Progressives Congress Nigeria, faulted the party’s proposed constitution in circulation.
In a statement issued by the Secretary of All Progressives Congress Diaspora Chairmen Forum, Hon. Ayoola Lawal on behalf of the Forum and the APC members in the Diaspora.
The statements partly read “We have sighted the recently released proposed amended constitution of our party and as leaders of the party in the Diaspora, we express the deep disappointment of Nigerians in the Diaspora who we represent over this recent attempt to completely obliterate any iota of cohesive and functional participation by Nigerians in Diaspora as members of our beloved party, the APC”.
Mr. Ayoola stated that the treatment by the constitution amendment committee to the Diaspora compatriots as members of the APC is quite difficult to understand. We strongly believe allowing such to stay as recommended in the proposed constitution will promote acrimony, instability, and loss of united operational focus and outcomes in the Diaspora chapters of the APC.
“By way of reminder, we made definite suggestions on Diaspora proper inclusion in the party organs, that promotes Diaspora Inclusion, and engagement, and a structured reward system for our Diaspora members to strengthen our party in the Diaspora Nigerian community. Our contributions to the committe are true reflection of the agitations of our members for party recognition, and our years of experience managing the affairs of our party since inception, as well as members of the legacy parties of that gave birth to the APC.”
“Our contributions towards the review of the party’s constitution were submitted, to Prof. Tahir Mamman, OON, SAN, led APC Constitution Review Committee, through the Secretary, APC Constitution Review Committee on March 26, 2021. Unfortunately, not a single item from our submission was considered or included in the proposed constitution.
We will like to bring to the attention of His Excellency, Gov Buni as the Chairman, APC CECPC, and place on record that as Nigerians and members of APC who played our critical roles when needed in the building and strengthening of our party as well as in the electoral victories of our candidates, our deep sense of injury committed against Nigerians in diaspora by this action under your leadership as the chairman of our beloved party.”
We are taking this opportunity to call on the leadership of our party to take urgent remedial steps to ensure that Nigerians in the Diaspora are given a sense of belonging within the APC. This is the only way to assuage our present sense and feeling of abandonment.
We, therefore, request Your Excellency’s immediate intervention to ensure that these abuses of our rights as party members and as Citizens of the Federal Republic Nigeria “are resolved, and our dignity properly restored in the amended constitution of our great party, the APC”.
