OYOAPC : Fatima Hassan puts her hat in the ring
….says she has been a staunch advocate for young women in politics
Fatima Hassan is no new name in the Oyo APC political circuit, as an active and card-carrying member of the All Progressive Congress, she served as a Special Adviser to late Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Student Affairs.
Now, she has set her sight on an even greater goal – becoming the Women leader of the Oyo state All Progressive Congress.
She brings with her a barrage of political accomplishments having served as the Coordinator APC-Young Women Forum Oyo State as well as Coordinator Young women in politics forum Oyo State. She also served as a Member, contact, and mobilization committee for the National Progressive Youth Conference which was the maiden edition in the history of the APC. It is enough to say that there is no dearth of political experiences for Fatima Hassan.
The University of Ibadan Masters Degree Holder believes that it is time to see an inclusion of women in political participation that goes beyond just mobilization. As a leader, she has vowed to bring about party reforms that will remove barriers so women can become leaders and ultimately achieve elective office. Also, mobilize women voters and support the party and its candidates during elections.
Beyond Politics, Fatima is passionate about women and their affairs. In 2020, after persistent cases of rape, she convened a walk ‘a walk for our lives’. The exercise started at total filling station Sango and ended at Mokola Bridge. While in 2021, she convened a female roundtable tagged ‘A woman winning through life: confidence, leadership, and growth’.
The program which was an all-women event served as a platform where older women who are successful in their own rights shared experiences with younger women. It also served as a forum for younger women to pick mentors. It aims at raising a generation of confident and high-achieving women.
By signifying her interest in running for the coveted post, Fatima could become the youngest APC women leader in Oyo state and this doesn’t seem to faze her as she believes that the future is here already. “I am not too young because the future is now and we, its leaders are ready.
As an advocate for gender equity and youth inclusion in governance, I believe we are the next generation of leaders. More so, power is not given, it is taken and the time is now. We are changing the narrative. I have been a staunch advocate for young women’s involvement in politics. So, moving forward I plan to do better.”
