Sports Minister seeks assistance for Oyo fire victims
—– writes NEMA for succour
Victims of Alesan fire disaster will soon have cause to smile as the Minister of Sports and Youth Developments, Mr Sunday Dare has written the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for succour.
The Minister in his letter to the Director General of NEMA, said the incident left many people indigent as their means of livelihood went up in smokes.
The letter reads:
“I bring you greetings from the Ministry of Youth And Sports Development albeit with a heavy heart arising from loss suffered from the people of Oyo Town, Oyo State following the fire that razed the ancient Akesan Market in town, in the early hours of Sunday, 5 January 2020.
“In the wake of this tragic incident, many people have been rendered indigent because of the losses they suffered from the fire that wiped out their sources of livelihood, business, investment and life savings. This has created a humanitarian situation for those affected by the fire as they are no longer able to cater for basic daily needs.
It is important that these affected persons immediately receive relief materials to ease further human suffering, while they go about rebuilding their ruined businesses and get back on their feet.
It is on this note that I make passionate appeal and request to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as the Minister of the Federal Republic from Oyo State, for relief materials to be made available and distributed to the persons and families that have been impacted by the fire in Akesan Market, Oyo Town, Oyo State.
“Accept my appreciation as I look forward to your prompt dispatch of the relief materials to the victims of the inferno.
Thank you”
