“We are still learning to live without you,” Kenny Oyedipe reminisces about late dad on Father’s Day
It’s been 191days since your shocking exit from earth and I still can’t believe you are gone!
My friends chide me that at almost 83yrs of age coupled with the great life you lived, I should be thankful for your life. But it is surreal and I am finding it difficult adjusting to life without you.
You used to say that we would truly appreciate you once you were gone and that is so true.
Your death has brought a lot of things to fore and for me, deeper refections and resolutions on life.
Today, June 20th 2021 is the first Father’s day without you, yet I immediately remember the last Father’s day with you alive even though I was away because of the lockdown.
There has been an interesting juxtaposition of events and memories of you though.
Your first post humous birthday immediately reminded me of how we celebrated the last one.
The first Easter without you was a flood of memories of the last.
And so on and so forth. Every day. Every time.
Even going up near your room is filled with emotions, the last time and now; you are gone?
This first Father’s day without you is just silent. Apart from the courteous shout outs to fathers that I know, it is eerily silent.
They say time will heal.
Well, 191 days and still counting…..
But I miss you.
Your presence, your essence, your counsel, your love.
Daddy dearest, May you find rest in Christ;
And may I find comfort in Christ.
Amen.
P.S Mummy also goes off intermittently into the last times with you and first times without you. It is how we live now.
Love you, Dad.
Happy post humous Father’s day.❤
