We will not allow anyone rubbish Akin Oke—- APC Group
The Progressives Front, a Group within the Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to resist attempts to rubbish the integrity of Chief Akin Oke, the Caretaker Chairman of the APC in the State. According to a statement by the Group while reacting to the Statement credited to Hon Mojeed Olaoya, the Caretaker Secretary of the party in the State that ChiefOke was acting unilaterally, the Group said the actions of Olaoya in the build up to the Ward, Local Government and State Congresses have shown that he could no longer be trusted having pitched his tent with a governorship aspirants in the State APC.
“All the actions of Hon Olaoya has shown him to be a biased individual who could not be trusted. He has not hidden his ambition, this is why he pitched his tent with the aspirant, he could no longer be trusted to make unbiased decisions. No decision of the party is safe with him as any decisions made would find his way to the people he is supporting”, the Group said.
According to Tunde Oladeji, the Group’s coordinator, Chief Oke has clearly shown that he wants to leave a legacy of fairness after almost a decade as the chairman of the party. “On the issue of zoning party positions, Chief Oke’s legacy was to ensure that all the different local government areas in the State were adequately represented in the party EXCO unlike before when the template tilted the EXCO in favour of some local government and zones. “Every one commended Chief Oke on the zoning formula, but because of the agenda of some people, because of their personal interest, they worked against the zoning formula, leading to its being jettisoned. If we have followed that template as some people are now agitating, the present crisis would have been avoided”.
“On the issue of the Congress result, the party chairman was the person that submitted the result to the Congress committee, shortly after the result was submitted, information got to party faithful in the State that the same governorship candidate has taken his desperation to the party secretariat in Abuja and was working on substituting the result with that of his own loyalists; working with Olaoya who helped him to draw up the list. It is this same doctored list that they have brought here for use at the Congress. Chief Okewould be failing in his duty of an impartial party chairman if he signs off on this and allows the doctored result to be used”.
Also reacting to the allegation that Chief Oke raised money to purchase forms for the Congress without disclosing the source, the Group noted, “it is clear that Olaoya was not being truthful. It clearly shows the way he perceives his responsibility and that of the party in this sort of exercise. As an impartial umpire, the party is not expected to raise money for its activities from people with ‘special interests’, or hand over party structure to people because of money, in any case, the committee that was saddled with that responsibility was deliberately delaying in carrying out its duty. In times past, how many times have these people being canvassed for money come to the assistance of the party? Thankfully, Chief Oke is not being accused of taking money from any of the governorship candidates to buy the forms neither is he being accused of taking money to support any body unlike most of them in the present EXCO who have aligned with most of the candidates and are taking money from them, thus selling their souls to the highest bidder”.
“We therefore support Chief Oke’s decision to let the world know the situation of things as it pertains the Congress result. The Congress should not be held until the issue is resolved”.
