For endorsing Makinde, Accord dissolves state excos, appoints caretaker C’tee
The national leadership of Accord has dissolved all its executive members in Oyo state, who endorsed Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as its preferred governorship candidate in Saturday’s election.
In the letter sent to the National Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu and signed by the National Chairman of Accord, Muhammad Nalado stated that the Accord state executives in Oyo state has been dissolved for anti-party activities.
He said the dissolution of the Oyo Excos which takes immediate effect formed parts of decision reached during an emergency National Executive Council meeting held at its National Secretariat, Abuja on Wednesday.
The letter dated March 8th, 2023 and addressed to the National Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was entitled “Dissolution of the Oyo State Executives of Accord”
Copies of the letter was also sent to the Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) INEC; Oyo State Commissioner of Police; Director, Department of State Security (DSS), Oyo State; and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
The letter which was sighted by The Nation reads in part: “We wish to bring to the knowledge of the Commission that the State Executives of our great party ‘ACCORD’ Oyo State Chapter has been dissolved with immediate effect due to Anti-Party Activities and Gross misconduct by the State Excos. This decision was taken during an emergency National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of our great party held on the 8 March, 2023 at the National Secretariat, Abuja.
“However, the following members of the party have been appointed as the Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party pending when the State Congress Elections would be held;
“Alh. Isiaka Salami (Caretaker Chairman); Mr. Bashiru Ayobami (Secretary); Hon Fatai Salawu (member); Mrs Bimpe Martins (member) and Hon Ayodele Oyajide (members).
“We urge the Commission to kindly give this Caretaker Committee necessary attention/cooperation they may require.
