Oyo LG crisis : ALGON Condemns return of violence
…as Auxiliary storms Ogbomoso with armed thugs to unleash violence
The Oyo state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), today condemned thereturn of violence in several parts of the State as thugsworking with PDP Caretaker Chairmen unleashed violence on elected chairmen, their councillors and members of the APCin council areas across the State.
Speaking today, Chairman of ALGON, Prince Ayodeji Abass- Aleshinloye described the spate of violence as a return to the pre-2011 era in the State.
Late last night, it was reported that some PDP thugs attacked the Chairman of Ogbomoso North, Mr Olamijuwonlo Akala, on his way home. It was by whiskers that the chairman escaped being killed as his car was damaged. A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was however unlucky as he was killed by the rampaging thugs. “ As we are talking we learnt that a National Union of Road Transport Workers chieftain in the State, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi AKA Auxiliary has been mobilised to Ogbomoso to take over the local government. H e went with thugs armed to the teeth”.
In Oyo East LG, PDP thugs also took over since Sunday night and began their attacks in the early hours of Monday , allegedly led by the Caretaker Chairman, Saheed Arowosaye. The thugs attacked the residence of the Chairman, Hon Biodun Babatunde. In Oyo West, P.A to the Caretaker chairman mobilised thugs to the Council secretariat as early as 5.30 am. Also in Ibadan North, a PDP thug was arrested with charms and gun.
The ALGON chairman bemoaned the unfortunate situation which has disrupted the peaceful atmosphere in the State. “It is quite unfortunate that the Caretaker chairmen have now resorted to self help with this return to violence. This stands condemnable. Why would someone feel the blood of thepeople is worth their ambition. We have always preached peace and we shall continue to be law abiding.”
“ If you recall, when we took over on Monday, it was peaceful and we informed our people to act accordingly. But they came with violence and we warned our people to steer clear of violent confrontation as no position is worth the life of anyone.”
Abass-Aleshinloye said what happened today is a confirmation of the marching order by Governor Seyi Makinde to the Caretaker chairmen who he mobilised to the tune of N3.5million last week after his meeting with them where he informed them
