Oyo South senatorial Primary: Do not subvert the people’s will, Group warns APC.
Subterranean moves by the Isaac Omodewu– led Executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo State to subvert the will of the people as expressed during the Sunday Senatorial Primary of the Oyo South Senatorial district would be an exercise in futility.
This was the verdict of Oyo Progressive Front, a pressure group within the APC in Oyo Stateon Monday while reacting to rumours of over voting during the primary election.
According to the Group, the plan to subvert the will of the people led to the rumour of over voting being peddled by loyalists of a candidate in the last governorship primary.
The Group also revealed that such rumour could only be a reflection of the poor planning on the part of the Isaac Omodewu– led Executives of the party.
According to Tunde Oladeji, the Group’s coordinator, the occurrence of over voting, if actually there was one, at the Primary election had clearly shown the cluelessness of the present APC executive in Oyo State which had been its hallmark since it hijacked the party structure in the State.
The election had Adegboyega Adegoke with 53 votes, Bimbo Adekanmbi, 98 votes, Sarafadeen Alli, who had earlier withdrawn from the contest with 107 votes, Kola Balogun, 93 votes, Rotimi Francis Adeniyiwith 4 votes, Waheed Olajide, 2 votes and Kolapo Kola –Daisi who polled 212 votes to emerge winner.
“The delegates were accredited and the numbers were known, how come the story of over voting is coming up now? It is either some people are intentionally creating a crisis where there is none, in any case, the umpire, the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC) official at the scene has not come out to say there was over voting”, the Coordinator said.
The Group however vowed to resist any attempt to upturn the will of the people . “ We have heard from authoritative sources that agroup loyal to the camp of the new governorship candidate is behind the move to subvert the will of the people in that primary and we will not hesitate to name them if we are pushed to the wall. We are watching and all eyes are watching”.
