Ogbomoso Community tasks Police on professionalism
Ogbomoso Community Foundation (OCF) has cautioned law enforcement agents especially men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to always apply professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
A statement signed by the leader of OCF, Gen Oladayo Popoola, former military Governor of Oyo and Ogun States also advised security agents to always be humane in their approach to members of the public especially young men and women.
This warning came on the heels of violence that trailed the “end SARS protest” in different parts of the country especially Ogbomoso where a student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) was allegedly killed by policemenat the weekend.
According to the OCF leader, there should be respect for lives and this should be sacrosanct. “These young men and women are leaders of tomorrow and their lives matter. Our security agents should be cautious in their approach and in the way they handle cases involving them. They are the future leaders of our country.”
The Socio-Cultural group also expressed its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Student, the Vice Chancellor, Staff and Students of the Institution . “ May the Almighty God give them the fortitude to bear the loss. It is always painful to hear of the death of a young person especially considering the circumstances and manner of death.”
The OCF commended the Inspector General of Police over the ban placed on SARS, nationwide, it however said it goes beyond mere ban. “ There should be a reform of the entire police force in order to ensure that it lives up to a modern Police force with clearly spelt out duties in a democracy”.
