1. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday, instructed all financial institutions against having any transactions in crypto or facilitating payments for crypto exchanges. This has now become an illegal operation.
2.The Nigerian government has slammed Emirates Airlines’ outbound flights with a 72-hour suspension. It explained that the suspension followed a breach of guidelines placed by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.
3.The leadership of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) on Friday suspended its 19-day-old indefinite strike. In a statement, the Union urged all public primary school heads and teachers in the state to resume work on Monday 8th, February, 2021.
4. The ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja, on Friday, heard arguments in the case by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) against the Federal Government of Nigeria. Recall that SERAP filed a suit against the government for failing to address the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the country.
5.The police in Ogun State, yesterday said attacks on Fulani herdsmen’s settlements must stop henceforth. The Police threatened that kingpins, procurers and counselors of the hoodlums who attacked the Fulani settlement in Igua also be fished out to face the law.
6. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday swore in 18 Permanent Secretaries, consisting of 10 females and eight males. Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu urged them to put their ideas to work towards achieving a greater Lagos.
7. The coast is now clear for Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to become the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), as Yoo Myung-hee, the South Korean candidate has officially withdrawn from the race.
8. The World Health Organisation-led COVAX global initiative has failed to shortlist Nigeria for the Pfizer vaccines following the country’s inability to meet the standard requirement of being able to store the vaccines at the required -70 degrees Celsius.
9. Some shanties suspected to be hideouts of traffic robbers and cultists in the Ikorodu area of Lagos have been raided by a special team comprising policemen from different units. This led to the arrest of five suspects in the area.
10.The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has confirmed 1,624 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The development brings the total number of confirmed infection in the country to 137,654.
