PARTY PRIMARIES: LAGELU APC HOLDS HITCH-FREE DELEGATE CONGRESS
The Lagelu Local Government chapter of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo state, today, held its Special Delegate Congress in compliance with the directive of the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee of the party in preparation for the party primaries scheduled to take off later this week across the country.
The Special Delegate Congress, according to party sources, became imperative to make up for certain deficiencies in the Congresses of the party held last year and which generated a lot of controversies in many state chapters including Oyo state.
Party faithful including leaders and members of the APC in the 14 Wards across the local government area trooped out en masse as early as 8.30am today to elect five members as local and state delegates respectively. The voting exercise which took place at the Collation Centers of each of the Wards was observed by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) while security agents were on hand to maintain law and order.
A cross section of party leaders moved round the centres to monitor the conduct of the exercise which they adjudged as hitch-free and successful. The leader of the team who is also the Zonal Leader of the APC in Ibadan Outer City, Chief Kunle Sanda declared that members of the pad have set aside all internal wrangling that had deprived the party of its right of place.
His words; “We have demonstrated to the whole world that we, in the Progressive family, are capable of resolving our differences without employing violence and brigandage. It is on this note that we are assuring the good people of Oyo state that we would present a better alternatives to the present PDP government in the state which has failed woefully.
The Congress continues tomorrow as party faithful would gather again to elect three National Delegates who would make it to the National Convention expected to produce the Party’s Presidential Candidate later this month in Abuja.
On the entourage were the Chairman of the party in Lagelu LGA, Mr Oyegoke Emmanuel, a former Member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aderemi Adebayo and Hon. Sikiru Adebayo (Kajue) who is a former Special Adviser (Political) to late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
While speaking with our correspondent, the party chairman, Mr. Oyegoke, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise which, according to him, was an indication that Oyo APC was ready to dislodge the PDP from the Agodi Government House in 2023. Among the places visited are IDC Primary School in Akobo (Ward 01), IDC Primary School, Oluwa (Ward 05), Sagbe-Pabiekun (Ward 14) among others.
