Oyo 2023: Adelabu warns against planned attack on Accord candidates by opposition
The Accord governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu has warned opposition elements against planned attack on candidates of the Accord party as political campaign across the State picks up.
The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Bayo Adelabu Campaign Organisation at the weekend. Signed by Bolaji Tunji, the Director of Communication, the Accord standard bearer warned against returning Oyo State to the era of brigandage during political periods which had become a thing of the past with the Senator Abiola Ajimobi administration.
“ We have it on good authority that the opposition elements have perfected plans to unleash violence on Accord candidates across the state by elements in the two opposition parties in order to intimidate and create fears among the teeming and growing members of our party. This plan rather than create fear in our members will ensure that they are more resolved in ensuring that the current Peoples Democratic Party((PDP) government is swept out of Agodi house come 2023.
“The thugs, masquerading under the umbrella of park management, we gathered, have been given a marching order on what to do. Money has been provided while arms are said to have also been procured all in a bid to intimidate, we will not allow these people and their sponsors to have their way. The police should also ensure that all political elements in the state play by the rule. As a party, we abhor violence and will rather engage in intellectual, issue-based debate rather than violence.
“It is clear that the present administration in the state has failed the people. The governor himself has acknowledged his failure in his recent radio interview. The honourable thing is to accept his impending defeat in 2023 which would just be a formalisation of the decision of the good, long suffering people of Oyo State that have rejected the PDP administration.
“As for the All Progressives Congress (APC), our advise to the few progressive elements still remaining in the party is to beware and not embark on another merry-go-round without any visible end. They should not dissipate energy on a journey without any end in view. The original owners of the candidate have said they would work with him and claim him back into their fold. All progressive-minded elements should reject the incursion of these conservative elements into the progressive fold through the back door. Oloye Bayo Adelabu remains the best candidate with the right qualities that will serve the people diligently with their welfare in mind and ensure that Oyo State regains its rightful place as a pacesetter State.”
The Campaign organisation said the 7-point agenda of the Accord party candidate is to ensure that the people of Oyo State reap the dividends of good government and democracythrough the security of lives and properties, mechanised agriculture and poverty alleviation, industrialisation and employment creation, health, education, focus on the environment and lastly, good governance and innovative ideas, “with Adelabu as governor in 2023, help would have come to Oyo State, to rescue the State from the misgovernance of the Seyi Makinde administration that has adversely affected the people.”
